We are a 30-year-old couple living and investing in Calgary, Canada. So far, our portfolio consists of four doors; a duplex with a legal basement suite that is fully tenanted, and a detached 4 level split that we are finishing off the legalization process on the secondary suite. We were first drawn to real estate investing around July of 2020. Alisha suggested it, and Patrick was on board right away. This is something we often feel grateful for because I’ve heard of many cases in which one partner is all for it, and the other just has no interest.
Patrick grew up in Fort Frances, Ontario and has a degree in Kinesiology. He currently works a rotational schedule on the rigs. Alisha was born and raised in Calgary, and has a Communications degree. She has been working in marketing since 2016. Both of us are licensed Real Estate Agents in Alberta with Your Way Real Estate Inc. Between the two of us, we offer a unique skillset that we bring to the table that directly applies to real estate investing. Patrick is extremely handy, and Alisha is good at the networking and creative side. We are very excited for the future, to grow our portfolio and we have some very ambitious goals.
There’s a common misconception that real estate is not profitable in Canada. While sometimes true in certain areas of Canada (Toronto and Vancouver for example), we want to show that it can be profitable and worth it. In our city, the average home price is in the mid 500k’s, so even though you will not find the $65,000 property that you would in some states (that would virtually buy you a shed), you can still find good deals if you know your numbers including the rental income a place can generate.
We want to be very transparent in sharing our successes, our struggles, and tips whether you are interested in learning about real estate or becoming an investor, or if you already have properties of your own.
